In a statement by FDA updating on Puerto Rico-related medical product shortages, Commissioner Gottlieb affirmed that the situation related to Baxter’s IV saline products will improve and discussed working with other manufacturers, including ICU Medical and B. Braun, to increase supplies of amino acids. Baxter is one of the largest manufacturers of amino acids serving the US market. Approximately 90 medical products manufactured on Puerto Rico (which includes biologics, devices and drugs) are currently being monitored by FDA, Gottlieb indicated.
