China’s CFDA is proposing changes to its track-and-trace requirements for medicines, suggesting that it may need to abandon the use of serial numbers supplied by the central government, Securing Industry is reporting. The current requirement is for pharmaceuticals to carry a 20-digit serial number issued by the government. However, the numbers issued by the government are reportedly not compliant with GS1 standards (IPQ April 19, 2011) and must be manually uploaded within China.
