The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and WHO’s Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), has established a Caribbean Regulatory System (CRS) to improve conditions for patients in the region to receive safe, efficacious, high quality drugs. The CARPHA/CRS system will focus on assessing generic medicines and ensuring the quality of medicines to prevent substandard and falsified drugs from proliferating in the market. CARPHA/ CRS first action, taken in June, was to recommend four generic HIV treatments to the community based on its assessment.
